Super Hybrid Interview
August 24, 2011 | Listed Under: Interviews
Phoenix Movie Examiner interviewed Oded Fehr about his new movie Super Hybrid:
Actor Oded Fehr has run from several supernatural entities over the course of his career – zombies, a mummy and, now, a killer car. And while Fehr admits that they are all equally menacing antagonists, he believes the car in his latest film “Super Hybrid” has an evil edge.
“The wonderful thing thing about the mummy is that you have Arnold Vosloo playing it, which is fantastic,” Fehr explains. “You are playing opposite an actor and not just an inanimate object. Zombies are usually played by other actors, too, so I would probably say that the car is the harder thing because it is not really an actor. It is just a car.”
In “Super Hybrid,” Fehr plays an on-call mechanic who discovers that a mysterious car that has just been brought into his Chicago police impound garage has a mind of its own. With hundreds of horsepower and two tons of reinforced steel at its command, it is a seemingly unstoppable killing machine capable of outrunning – and outwitting – humans.
“These kinds of horror films are not exactly a genre I watch that much, so I wasn’t a great judge of the script,” Fehr says of his decision to star in “Super Hybrid.” “So, I think what drew me to it the most was the people involved. That was the catalyst that propelled me to do it. I really liked the people involved.”
Of course, Fehr was even more drawn to the project when he was given an opportunity to help craft his character. With the actor’s input, the character was made slimier and more annoying – the kind of guy who you hope will die by the time the end-credits begin to role. Fehr admits that he had a lot of fun with the role.
“For me, that made it more of an interesting character to play,” he adds, leading into a joke. “Sometimes, I wonder if that is who I really am – that kind of awful person – and the one I am in real life – this nice guy – maybe that is the part that I am acting. I am not really sure. It came pretty naturally to me to play an idiot.”
Next up for Fehr is “For the Love of Money,” a crime drama – scheduled to be released later this year – following the true account of an Israeli immigrant who searches for his piece of the American dream after his family succumbs to criminal activity. Fehr plays the primary character’s cousin – a drug lord of sorts.
The actor believes that hard dramas like that are easily the most fulfilling. However, he cannot deny the draw of movies like “Super Hybrid,” “The Mummy” and “Resident Evil” where stunts take center stage. Speaking of “The Mummy” and “Resident Evil,” Fehr admits to being interested in reprising his roles in either film franchise – depending on how the character would be coming back, what shape he would be in and so on, of course.
As for the aforementioned stunts, Fehr – who drives a Prius – shares that “Super Hybrid” came with quite a few close calls, including one in which a stunt-woman was hit by a car. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries and the worst thing the cast and crew had to endure was the cold weather in Regina – the capital of Saskatewan, Canada.
“It gets so cold there that the cars all have little heating blankets on their engines so that they actually start during winter time,” Fehr explains. “Those are very hearty people. A whole bunch of spoiled actors coming into their town, we really kind of had to stay together. I learned that anywhere you would have to have heating blankets for your engine is somewhere I would probably find it very difficult to live.”
Finally, unlike the character he plays in “Super Hybrid,” who becomes hell-bent on capturing the car and making some money off of it, Fehr says he would likely just run as fast as he could away from the situation; either that or he would have worked out immensely so that he could have a great body, take off his shirt and saved everyone in heroic fashion.
“That is the real situation that would have happened,” Fehr jokes. “I would have totally done the hero in real life.”

Today’s Downtime
August 23, 2011 | Listed Under: Site News
Everything is now up and working.
I restored from my personal backups as much as I could; I don’t think we lost anything else but maybe a few forum posts (if even that, I hadn’t checked the forum yet the day the hard drive failed), one chapter of fanfic and the three photos of Oded at the Comic-Con. Which all have been reuploaded now. So everything is up and working but if you encounter a problem or an error, let me know so I look into it!
Today’s downtime was because of hard drive failure of the server the site is hosted on. Site was restored from backup, but it was a month old one, and I have to check the forum, gallery and fanfic sections to see whether anything was lost and needs restoring from my personal database backups (if possible) and/or reuploading. But it’s now 2am so I’m going to do it tomorrow.
I’m closing the forum for a bit and if you get an error going to the gallery, please wait until I give the OK before reporting it to me.
Update:
- Everything has been now restored as much as possible, I don’t think we lost anything else but maybe a few forum posts (if that, I hadn’t checked the forum yet the day the hard drive failed), one chapter of fanfic and the three photos of Oded at the Comic-Con. Which all have been reuploaded now. So everything is up and working but if you encounter a problem or an error, let me know so I look into it!
- Currently working on the the fanfic sections.
- Forum is all done – the database backup I restore was from the day before the hard drive failure so if we lost anything, only was only from a few hours. If you notice your post(s) missing, please repost!
- Main site and gallery have been restored, and everything should be working normally on these places now.

Oded Fehr Will Guest-Star In “Winter” Premiere Of Covert Affairs
August 11, 2011 | Listed Under: Project News
According to an interview with the creators of Covert Affairs:
…We had great chemistry between Piper and Oded Fehr, so he’s going to be back in the [winter] premiere. He’s a great actor. … I wouldn’t say it would never [be romantic between them]. You never know.
You can read the full interview here.
That great news but not unexpected
I assume the “winter” premiere is the season 3 premiere.
