Gallery Works Again

Some files in the gallery got corrupted again, and have been replaced so the gallery is working again. Still trying to figure why it keeps happening.

Hard Drive Failures On Three Servers – Sites Affected

Three servers are in early hard drive failure. Gertie has ordered Data Retention and all sites on affected servers will be moved to new hard drives ASAP, but because it’s three servers she isn’t sure how long it’ll take.

These sites of mine are on the affected servers:

According to Gertie, there will be no data loss but might be some downtime while the sites transfer.

Forum & Fanfic

The forum and fanfic sections have been fixed!

I’ve been checking the them, and looks like the forum didn’t suffer damage at all and the fanfic sections only needed its database optimised and repaired to fix the few errors that popped up occasionally. At least I haven’t been getting them after I did that. But as always, if you spot any errors etc. let me know so I can look into them!

Gallery Fixed!

I was out most of today, got back about an hour ago – it’s now 8.30pm. I have now fixed the gallery – it turned out to be easy, just some corrupted php files that needed to be re-uploaded.

However, other sites on the same server had the same database problems as we, and they have reported them still today. I didn’t see any when I checked photos to see if they worked, but if you come across anything at all in the gallery that doesn’t work, please let me know so I can look into it!

I’ll see about the fanfic section next, and the forum – but if it appears to be something that’ll take hours, I’ll leave it for tomorrow because I’m starting to get tired and I’d only mess it up so it’s better that way.

Problems Again

EDIT: I just discovered that Gertie has fixed the running out of space issue, and I’m again able to access databases. But it’s 1am here so now, so I’m going to leave finding out, and fixing, what damage we got until tomorrow.

I have had to temporarily disabled access to directory the forum is installed in – now when you try to go to http://forums.oded-fehr.net you will get a 403 Forbidden error. It’s by purpose.

We’re having problems again, gallery and the forum – I’m not sure whether it’s because of normal server backups which Gertie runs every weekend, or maybe the same thing that caused the site to be suspended a week ago. I just know that the forum seems to suffer very much from it; it was sending me e-mails with an error that means the partition/server is running out of space and that I need to turn the forum off until the space problem is fixed to avoid damaging the forum.

Except I can’t get to the forum admin to do it (database error), and when I tried do it in phpmyadmin (which is abnormally slow, t00), it doesn’t seem to take hold (at least it still appears as normal to me when I logout and it shouldn’t. There could be already some damage in the database caused by the running out of space, but I won’t know what’s happening with the forum until the database and running out of space issues has been fixed and I can get it to work again.

I’m going to wait and see if the problems fix themselves – as I said, Gertie runs backups of all sites on all servers on Saturdays and Sundays, and that’s a resource intensive process that can make sites behave weirdly during and then again be ok once is done. I doubt this is because of it, but you never know.

Suspension

We were suspended because it the site “was extremely busy and using all the server resources”. I and my host are still trying to figure what caused it because it wasn’t a sudden spike in number of visitors – if it happens again, it may be necessary to re-suspend the site again but don’t worry, we’ll be back as soon as possible!

Hiatus
